REAL MADIRD boss Julen Lopetegui reportedly wants Manchester United star Romelu Lukaku.
Los Blancos appointed the former goalkeeper earlier this month.
He was supposed to take charge after leading Spain at the World Cup.
But the Spanish FA took a dim view of his involvement with Real and he was dismissed from his position.
Lopetegui is expected to shuffle his squad in the coming weeks after Zinedine Zidane’s side stuttered domestically last term.
According to Spanish media outlet Diario Gol - who are famed for their extravagant transfer rumours - Lopetegui has told Florentino Perez to sign him a target man.
It’s suggested United forward Lukaku is top of his list.
The 51-year-old boss likes to play a powerful forward up top.
He’s previously used Alvaro Morata in a similar role for Spain.
Lukaku only joined United in 2017, but Jose Mourinho might be tempted to cash in if a mega-money offer is tabled.
Diario Gol say Real’s hand is strengthened by United’s interest in two of their players.
Mourinho is keen on both Gareth Bale and Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo
It’s claimed a swap or cash-plus player deal could be a possibility.
If a deal can’t be struck, Real Madrid will reportedly turn their attention to Gabriel Jesus, Timo Werner or Robert Lewandowski.
Lewandowski, 29, has repeatedly been linked with a Bayern Munich exit.
Bayern boss Niko Kovac says he’s not going anywhere though.
“Nothing new about Robert Lewandowski,’ said Kovac when quizzed about his star man,
“I called him and gave him my point of view. I look forward to having him in the team.
“He is a great player, a world-class striker who has done a lot for the club and will do a lot in the future.”
