Unai Emery: "If we can on the last day, we will try to sign another centre-back, but one who has the capacity to help us."
Chelsea defender David Luiz wants to leave the club to go to Arsenal, according to Sky sources.
The Blues centre-back trained away from the rest of Frank Lampard's squad on Wednesday.
He is one of a number of central defenders on Unai Emery's shortlist ahead of the transfer deadline, but Sky Sports News understands there has been no formal bid for the Brazilian yet from the Gunners
Chelsea are reluctant to let him leave for the Emirates Stadium given their current transfer ban, as they would not be able to sign a replacement this summer.
Luiz is under contract at Stamford Bridge until 2021 after signing an extension in May of this year.
The 32-year-old made 36 Premier League appearances and scored three goals last season, his most ever during an English top-flight campaign.
Unai Emery is in the market for further defensive options and Arsenal are expected to make a final push to sign Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney before the deadline.
Meanwhile, Laurent Koscielny has departed north London to join Bordeaux.
Regarding his search for another defender, Emery told Sky Sports News: "If we can on the last day, we will try to sign another centre-back, but one who has the capacity to help us.
"We have a lot of defensive players. Maybe, it is different when Laurent Koscielny tells us he wanted to leave.
"We are finding the possibility to add another centre-back, but only if he can help us in our performance. We are working on that.
"I'm happy with our defensive players. We are working in the last minute, we are also taking the possibility that we can add some more players who can help us with good performance.
"We tried to sign some important, expensive players for our defence. But when we can't do that, the second line players don't really convince us to sign them
